I’ve been asking for years to hear one of God’s heavenly songs, ever since He start speaking in the night to me through Christian songs. I’d get a word, comfort, or guidance as I woke to specific choruses or stanzas. As beautiful and comforting as it is to have this, it made me long for more. Like a drop of water to a parched traveler, experiencing God’s word and presence only brings about a deeper desire for more of His word and presence.
Then it happened. Just this week. I was sitting alone on the couch in the evening, kids in bed, husband busy with something elsewhere, and I heard music starting. It was in my mind, but it was so loud and clear like when you know a song really well and can’t get it out of your head. It might as well be playing because it’s that loud. But I didn’t know this song. I curiously listened in as it built and changed, wondering even for a moment if it was all my imagination creating this.
Then a deep melody of dozens or more male voices singing in perfect harmony erupted. “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty”. Deep declaring of holiness…almost speaking, but they were singing. And then a higher pitch started. “Holy is the Lamb”. Lord and Lamb were beautifully drawn out with multiple tones. And then the two intertwined and sang together in perfect harmony.
I was in awe. Not wanting to move or speak or do anything to interrupt this heavenly flow of music. For minutes it continued. And I’m excited and teary eyed at the same time. God remembered a request from years ago and opened my ears in a quiet time so I could just enjoy and take time to listen in to the heavenly host praising Him in all His glory.
Some think heaven will be boring and we will tire of praising God. Let me tell you, your soul will be stirred inexplicably the moment that veil breaks and you will want to do nothing more than bask in His presence and join your voice with the angels in perfect harmony. As a deer pants for water, so my soul longs for you dear God.
Keep asking. Keep pressing. Amidst the growing and glorious relationship, you will experience God like you never have before. Holy, Holy, Holy is He!
