This page is broken down into three sections. Scripture is provided first, then a short explanation of what it means to prophesy, then the prayer with notes and more explanations to accompany it. May this prayer bring freedom and healing to whatever you apply it to!

Based on Ezekiel 36 (scripture provided in blue):

“Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, ‘Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord. 2 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The enemy said of you, “Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession.”’ 3 Therefore prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because they ravaged and crushed you from every side so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations and the object of people’s malicious talk and slander, 4 therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign Lord: This is what the Sovereign Lord says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the desolate ruins and the deserted towns that have been plundered and ridiculed by the rest of the nations around you— 5 this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, for with glee and with malice in their hearts they made my land their own possession so that they might plunder its pastureland.’ 6 Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel and say to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I speak in my jealous wrath because you have suffered the scorn of the nations. 7 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I swear with uplifted hand that the nations around you will also suffer scorn.

8 “‘But you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they will soon come home. 9 I am concerned for you and will look on you with favor; you will be plowed and sown, 10 and I will cause many people to live on you—yes, all of Israel. The towns will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt. 11 I will increase the number of people and animals living on you, and they will be fruitful and become numerous. I will settle people on you as in the past and will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 12 I will cause people, my people Israel, to live on you. They will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; you will never again deprive them of their children.

13 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because some say to you, “You devour people and deprive your nation of its children,” 14 therefore you will no longer devour people or make your nation childless, declares the Sovereign Lord. 15 No longer will I make you hear the taunts of the nations, and no longer will you suffer the scorn of the peoples or cause your nation to fall, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

Israel’s Restoration Assured

16 Again the word of the Lord came to me: 17 “Son of man, when the people of Israel were living in their own land, they defiled it by their conduct and their actions. Their conduct was like a woman’s monthly uncleanness in my sight. 18 So I poured out my wrath on them because they had shed blood in the land and because they had defiled it with their idols. 19 I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered through the countries; I judged them according to their conduct and their actions. 20 And wherever they went among the nations they profaned my holy name, for it was said of them, ‘These are the Lord’s people, and yet they had to leave his land.’ 21 I had concern for my holy name, which the people of Israel profaned among the nations where they had gone.

22 “Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. 23 I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.

24 “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you. 30 I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine. 31 Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices. 32 I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign Lord. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, people of Israel!

33 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it. 35 They will say, “This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited.” 36 Then the nations around you that remain will know that I the Lord have rebuilt what was destroyed and have replanted what was desolate. I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it.’

37 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Once again I will yield to Israel’s plea and do this for them: I will make their people as numerous as sheep, 38 as numerous as the flocks for offerings at Jerusalem during her appointed festivals. So will the ruined cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

An Explanation of Prophesy

Prophesy to the land around you in this incredible prayer that carries the authority of the Word of God.  The power of life and death is in the tongue.  We have so many opportunities to speak life to God’s creation.  Ezekiel 36 and Revelation 19:10 stood out to me on the same day and led to the creation of this prayer.  It is incredible how our Lord Jesus is intertwined through Old and New Testaments in so many ways!

“…for the Testimony of Jesus is the spirit of Prophecy” Rev 19:10

Three definitions are given for the word testimony.  I believe all are important to understand what prophecy is.

  1. a formal written or spoken statement, especially one given in a court of law.
  2. evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something.
  3. a public recounting of a religious conversion or experience.

The testimony of Jesus (the word made flesh) is:

  1. Declaring the Word, particularly declaring the bible and its truths.  The words of the bible and statements of our Lord are delivered with power, heard in the courts of heaven, and enforced.  To prophesy is to speak the bible over people or places or even things and to know that it is heard and enforced in the courts.
  2. To speak the Word and see it manifest.  Like faith, to prophesy draws the prophet into God and he or she then speaks what is seen through the Holy Spirit.  Prophecy is not empty.  It must produce evidence that is aligned with Jesus’ word.
  3. Prophecy is a public and outward declaration of the word of God.  True prophets have a deep relationship with Jesus.  They must be believers and they must grow and have experience in order to effectively and correctly minister the word to others.  Prophets are called to others to speak the word of the Lord.  Hidden messages of individual revelation are turned into prophecy when they are spoken or written to others.

Prophets in the bible spoke over people, lands, animals, and even objects.  I find it interesting that they address everything the same way: as if it is a living entity.  Prophets must trust that what they speak is manifested in the spirit.  Prophets working with seers will find their words bring astounding and sometimes unexpectedly dazzling changes in the spirit realm, though the physical may not immediately change.  Changes are made in the spiritual FIRST.

Knowing this, I wrote the prayer of prophecy to be spoken over land based on Ezekiel 36.  Wherever it says property, you can substitute home, church, or natural features such as woods and fields.

Prophesy to the Land Prayer (explanations in red)

I speak to this PROPERTY owned by God, for He declares in Psalm 24:1 that “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein”.  According to the Word, you belong to Jesus, your fullness and fruits, and those who dwell within.  As a co-heir with Christ, I say in Jesus’ name that you must now hear and obey what is said!

(Establishing the dominion and ownership of God over an area is important.  The enemy uses false deeds and decrees, entering into verbal and written agreements with people to falsely steal possession.  A thief cannot rightfully own what was given to him by someone who didn’t have the King’s authority to give it.  So to establish why we can declare Israel’s blessing over any land, especially those that are owned or used by Christians, we establish the word of God in Psalms.  All of the earth, dwellers, and fullness (present items such as plants and fields, and future items such as fruits and increase) in the earth are the Lord’s.  Being a co-heir in Christ is established in the New Testament as part of the New Covenant.)

The enemy may have declared you as a possession.  He may have ravaged and crushed you, or given you to others as a possession.  You may have been filled with malicious talk and slander.

(Declaring the accusations that the enemy brings against an area is important.  If you know of more specific words used, openly speak them.  This is akin to standing in heaven’s courts and the accuser stating his case against you or waving his false deeds as proof of his possession.  This is important to air openly because then we can deal with it, nullify it, and remove its power.  God declares the sins and accusations coming against His people often.  We should model the same.)

Listen and obey, PROPERTY!  This is what the Lord says about the dispossession, desolation, and evil polluting His holy lands.  His zeal burns for you.  I speak to those who have oppressed and plundered you.  May they suffer the jealous wrath of our Lord.  May the Lord’s uplifted hand drive your enemies to scorn!

(God and prophets address inanimate objects and land the same as they do people.  They are told to listen and obey.  They are rebuked.  They are called into healing.  We address the enemy here and remove his hands from the property and call back godly recompense on his head.  The Lord is the one who fights our battles, and we do well to trust Jesus’ words that He does whatever we ask when we are aligned with the word.)

But you, PROPERTY, will produce strong support and fruit for God’s people.  You will welcome them into your borders when they come.  The Lord is concerned for you and looks on you with favor.  You will be plowed and sown with good works in the spirit and it will manifest in the physical.  The numbers of peoples within you shall increase in multitude if they desire to increase, and they shall increase and prosper spiritually more than ever before even if physical numbers don’t change.  By this increase, we will know that the Lord is in you.  God’s people will live on you, possess you, and you will be their inheritance.  You will never again deprive them.

(Now we prophesy to the property by speaking the truth of God’s word to it.  We pronounce blessing and increase in accordance with the Word.  We speak strong words of “you will” and “you must”.  This is in reflection of the original writings of Jesus and the  New Testament writers especially.  As the One New Man bible illustrates in a translation that seeks to do justice to the Jewish roots and power of the original language, many statements are not just suggestions, they contain the word “must” with the addition of the modifier “continually”.  “You must continually forgive.”  This establishes the actions called forth are not just for the moment, but they are for the future too.)

Some say that you devour God’s people and deprive them of increase.  Therefore I declare that you will no longer devour or decrease the children of God.  No longer will you hear the words spoken by the enemy: words of scorn and taunting.  No longer will you fall under enemy words and power.

(As God often repeats and returns to declarations of judgment or blessing, we model the same and again bring up accusations the enemy may have made.  Again, if there are specific negative accusations or words you know about for your property, state them aloud in addition.  We break enemy power by bringing the secrets to the light.  There is nothing in the darkness that will not be revealed, and the light and the day are the same to the Lord.  We address the accusation more specifically here and target it.  We open future blessing and promise by effectively declaring that future words and powers will not cause the land to fall again.)

The Lord is jealous for His name’s sake and heals lands to protect His holy name.  I declare that healing is on you now since you are the Lord’s.  I ask that the sins committed on and against this property be covered in the blood of Jesus and forgiven.  Where the Lord’s name has been profaned on this PROPERTY or around it, I ask that the Lord of heaven’s armies zealously protect and deliver and heal the PROPERTY for His sake.

(We follow the model of Ezekiel 36 by returning to blessing and calling it out more in depth.  The focus is kept on God.  He alone heals and delivers.  Jesus gave us the authority to forgive the sins of others, so we add that to this Old Testament based prayer.  Both Testaments work in harmony since God is unchanging, and we do well to recognize how Jesus fits in the pre-incarnate word of God.  The Lord continually protects and delivers simply for the sake of His name.  We ask Him to move even if our lives do not reflect a holiness worth moving for.  By our covering in Jesus’ redemptive blood where we are washed clean and able to approach the throne of God, we humbly submit to Him and ask Him to move simply to glorify His name.)

Lord gather and bring back from the nations all the blessings that you have ordained for this PROPERTY.  Sprinkle clean water on it and cleanse it from all impurities and idols.  Give the people within a new heart of flesh and remove hearts of stone.  Place your Spirit within the people and lead them in all your decrees and laws.  You are His, PROPERTY.  The people within are His.  And He is our God.  He saves from all uncleanliness.  He brings plentiful fruits and not famine.  He increases the fruits and crops.  He removes disgrace.  Look back on your evil ways, sins, and detestable practices, PROPERTY and all who dwell within, and loathe them.  Be ashamed and disgraced at your previous conduct and turn to the Lord with all your heart and being.  The Lord will save you for His name’s sake.

(Since we are not talking about the physical remnant of Israel returning, we call for what God ordained for the property to return.  The enemy steals and removes blessings throughout time, so we call for it all to be restored.  We call for a cleansing of the people on the property to maintain a greater level of holiness.  Also, we model God and command the area to view past sins and disgrace in the light of the Lord.  This viewing produces momentary disgrace and shame, but it is not the same as the mocking shame of the enemy.  Godly shame leads to shaking off that cloak of evil, turning to God, and growing in Him.  The shame of the enemy leads to a stunting of growth, fear, and unworthiness.  When viewed by a seer while reciting the prayer, plants bowed and blushed under a load of darkness, then that darkness fell off and they reached in new growth and glory toward God.  It was a beautiful display of reverence and love.)

Areas of desolation: be cultivated.  Areas of waste: flourish like the garden of Eden.  Areas of ruin: rebuild, fortify, and be inhabited.  May every enemy surrounding you know that the Lord has done this.

(We speak specifically to the areas and altars, buildings, or other structures the enemy may have erected, or spiritual buildings that the enemy may have destroyed in order to take over the property.  We call for the habitation of the citizens of God’s heavenly kingdom and we establish walls and foundations that are established so strong that the passing enemy trembles in fear at what God has done.  This fortification guards the property from future attack and gives it a chance to stand against the enemy in the times to come.)

I speak once more to you, PROPERTY.  Flourish, multiply, strengthen, and be filled with blessing, praise, and promise in Jesus’ name.  Amen

(The prophetic prayer ends in blessing and a command to do good.  We wrap it all up in Jesus’ name.  This simple declaration is not needed for Jesus to move.  When we pray from the Bible and in His will, we model Him and are effectively praying “in his name”.  This is because the ancient Hebrews viewed a name as encompassing all the attributes and destiny of a person.  Names were incredibly important to them and we have lost that recognition of the power and significance a name carries in our western culture.  When we pray like Jesus, we are declaring the name of Jesus.  We are not required to end all prayers with “in the name of Jesus” as if they won’t be answered or enforced if we don’t add it.  I will argue that it is great to keep this phrase in our prayers because it is a reminder of who is enforcing everything contained within.  It keeps our focus on Jesus, and simply speaking His wonderful name is a weapon against the enemy!)
